Give your bonnet a makeover with New Ties!

Fallen out of love with any bonnets in your stash? You love the main part of the bonnet but the ties are too short or too thin, they just don’t seem to add any wow to your images?  Then this DIY up-cycling project is for you!

In this tutorial we’re going to replace the existing ties on your un-loved bonnets and attach beautiful new ties which match your style or existing collection of props.

Attaching New Ties to a Bonnet

You can change the ties on any type of bonnet… knitted bonnet, sewn fabric bonnet, felted bonnet.  The key is working out how to remove the old ties and how to attach the new ones!  Watch the video below where I show you a few different techniques.

TIP

If you don’t want to alter your existing bonnets for good, forever and theres no way of temporarily removing them so they could be put back at some point…. then attach your new ties in addition to your old ties.  If you’ve gone for lovely thick silk ties then they will hide a thinner shorter tie.

Tools

  • Your fingers!
  • Scissors
  • Glue Gun (for certain methods)

Materials

  • New ties… ribbon, fabric strips: silk, velvet, cotton or yarn
