Wet Felting – tools
THE BEAUTY OF WET FELTING IS IN ITS SIMPLICITY. YOU ONLY NEED BASIC EQUIPMENT AND A SMALL AREA TO WORK ON.
Today were exploring all the tools needed for wet felting, or rather we’re exploring all the tools available… for a beginner as I said above you only need basic equipment. Shown in this photo is 2 sheets of bubble wrap, an old towel, a bowl, washing up liquid and a squeezy bottle this is really all you need, but there are a range of other tools that I will explain just to increase your knowledge which will help you when you explore what’s for sale. (Don’t forget you can purchase a kit of materials from me… click here!)
In this photo above are extra tools that can be used but are not essential.
- Muslin Fabric
- Bamboo Mat
- Squidgy Bottle with metal water sprinkler (Ball Brauser Sprinkler)
- Olive Oil soap bar
- Olive Oil Soap shavings
- Wooden felting roller
- Wooden Felting Scrubber
To apply the hot soapy water you want a fine spray or sprinkle to easily cover your wool in a thin layer of water but not soak it! If you don’t want to buy a squidgy bottle made for wet felting like this one called a Ball Brauser Sprinkler…
…then there are a number of other ways to create your own DIY “sprinkler”
- An extra fine spray watering can with very small spray holes in the sprinkler
- A spray bottle like a perfume bottle or gardening spray bottle
- A bottle with a ready made hole in the lid like this dishwasher rinse aid bottle I found (the hole in this lid is a little big but it does the job!)
- A drinking water bottle or similar – punch your own holes in the lid – these holes can be made very small with lots of them!
I used a bradawl or awl (spiked metal tool for indenting) to push holes into the lid, with a solid base underneath to push into!
